Actor Bill Paxton Has Passed Away, Aged 61

2017 has taken one of Hollywood’s favourites already, and it’s only February.

Bill Paxton, best known for his roles in Titanic, Alien, Big Love and most recently, Training Day, has passed away due to heart complications following surgery just hours before the Academy Awards.

“It is with heavy hearts we share the news that Bill Paxton has passed away due to complications from surgery,” Paxton’s family said in a statement.

“A loving husband and father, Bill began his career in Hollywood working on films in the art department and went on to have an illustrious career spanning four decades as a beloved and prolific actor and filmmaker. Bill’s passion for the arts was felt by all who knew him, and his warmth and tireless energy were undeniable.

We ask to please respect the family’s wish for privacy as they mourn the loss of their adored husband and father.” The news came from director Doug Liman, “We were discussing making a sequel for Edge of Tomorrow and he told me, ‘Sergeant Farrell (his character) would be ready to report for duty’,” Liman said, according to the NY Post.

“He went into [surgery] with the same optimism that he brought to all aspects of his life and work.” Paxton is survived by his wife, Louise Newberry, and two children, James and Lydia.

His Aliens Director James Cameron issued a heartfelt statement,

“I’ve been reeling from this for the past half hour, trying to wrap my mind and heart around it. Bill leaves such a void,” Cameron wrote in a statement to Vanity Fair.

“He and I were close friends for 36 years, since we met on the set of a Roger Corman ultra-low budget movie. He came in to work on set, and I slapped a paint brush in his hand and pointed to a wall, saying ‘Paint that!’ We quickly recognised the creative spark in each other and became fast friends.”
