This US Hospital Bill For Having A Baby Is Bonkers
We’ve all heard horror stories about how exxy healthcare is in the US… and well, this is just another example.
But it seems that even Americans are blindsided by how pricey their system is.
Especially when it comes to charging top dollar for something as basic as having skin-to-skin contact with your newborn.
“I know it’s cliché to say,” tweeted Ben Kling, “but this hospital charging parents ‘$39.95’ to hold their newborn baby is a REALLY tight microcosm of capitalism.”

Hospital charged me/insurance 90 bucks PER PILL to give me my own epilepsy medication. As in, I brought the meds and the nurse handed them to me.

My friend had a $25k delivery, we ran the numbers — would’ve actually been cheaper to fly first to the Four Seasons Bora Bora and do a home birth + recovery in one of their suites. It’s INSANE.— A (@quilssachent) March 8, 2019
