There are so many sneaky, little costs that add up significantly, but really don’t add to our quality of life. So – five things you can stop spending money on would be:
iTunes. Apple does not make all their money simply from computers! Dowloading music and movies from iTunes can be a big expense – I helped a reader with his budget just last week and rather than the $20 a month that he’d budgeted for music, he was spending upwards of $150 a month.
Foxtel. Seriously with all the new digital channels, do you really need Foxtel?
Takeaway. You don’t have to cut it all out, but it is so, so easy to spend far more than you realise on takeaway. Take a bottle of water from home, take some snacks from home before you leave the house and you can save a significant amount of money.
Also, get out some of that “set and forget” paperwork and shop around. I’m talking about things like your car insurance – Choice did some research the other month and found that the average person cold save several hundred dollars a year by shopping around for their car insurance. And the same holds true for your home and content insurance, your personal insurance – even your pet insurance if you have it!
Credit card fees. According to finance comparison site Mozo, more than 50 credit cards now have interest rates of over 20%. But it’s easy to find cards that are under 10% - and often with 2 or 3% introductory rates. So change your credit card and you could save heaps!
