Former Port Power AFL Star Jailed For Domestic Violence
Former Port Power player and Glenelg SANFL Coach, Nick Stevens, has been jailed over domestic violence.
The serial woman basher is behind bars after being convicted of numerous ongoing physical assaults on his former partner Laima McKenna.
He was jailed for three months, with a further three months suspended.
Along with a jail term, he was ordered to complete a 12-month community corrections order that included 90 hours of community service. He was also fined $400.
Ms McKenna told News Ltd she was relieved the ordeal had ended.
“I am so happy that it is all finally over,” she said.
“To all my beautiful family and friends, thank you for your amazing, amazing support over the past three and a half years.
“You gave me strength and I love you all very much.”
In a harrowing victim impact statement read in court yesterday Ms McKenna said Stevens had ruined her life.
She described the time since he was charged as “an emotional hell” saying she was “no longer the happy carefree, fun person” she used to be.
She now has a permanent scar on her cheek and continues to suffer from psychological stress.
Stevens admitted repeatedly bashing Ms McKenna, including kicking as she lay cowering on the ground, but begged to stay out of prison.
If has had not been a high profile athlete would he have been jailed for longer?
