Lions Don't Get AFLW Gabba Grand Final After Adele Concert
While we are ecstatic that the Brisbane Lions Women's team has made the inaugural Grand Final on Saturday against the Adelaide Crows, it's not all good news.
The iconic match will not take place in front of a home crowd at the Gabba, as planned - despite the Lions' best efforts..
The final ruling came today with the playing surface deemed unsuitable and unsafe for football.
The Adele concert left the turf in such a state that the first ever Women's Grand Final has been relocated to Metricon Stadium on the Gold Coast.
The Lions finished the season with six wins and one draw, finishing top of the ladder and securing the 'home' grand final this weekend, March 25.
The game will be played as a curtain raiser for the men's Round One Derby against the Gold Coast Suns.
The news hasn't been met with open arms from fans of the sport.
Many believe that playing the inaugural Women's Grand Final as a precursor to the men's hitout is a step backwards for the league.
Honestly, if I was part of either of the teams playing in the AFLW grand final, I'd be feeling very let down and under appreciated right now— Rose 🌻 (@fringefatale) March 20, 2017
Either way, we are excited to watch our girls run out and continue to display the unyielding, competitive brand of footy that we've become accustomed to this season.
