SA To Investigate Commonwealth Games Bid

South Australia will leave no stone unturned in investigating a possible bid to host the Commonwealth Games in 2026, Sports Minister Corey Wingard says.

Mr Wingard told parliament on Tuesday the state government was investigating the possibility and merits of a bid.

The minister attended the recent Gold Coast games to understand what was involved in a making a bid and what would be necessary to stage the sports event.

"It is recognised that potentially hosting a future edition of the Commonwealth Games may have many benefits," Mr Wingard said.

"But this process is now about weighing up those benefits against the costs.

"We won't leave any stone unturned as we look for opportunities to grow our economy and create more jobs and take South Australia's exposure on the international stage to another level."

Mr Wingard said it would be a "tight turnaround" to bid for the 2026 event.

"But that's not to say we shouldn't be looking at every opportunity," he said.

"If this stacks up for South Australia we will be exploring every opportunity to make it happen."
