Telstra Has Announced There Are Some Big Changes Coming

One million Telstra customers are about to be hit with higher landline fees.

Households will pay $1 to $2 more a month, depending on their plan, from October 1.

Some business fixed line access charges will jump $2 to $5 a month, or as much as 13.8 per cent extra.

Australian Communications Consumer Action Network chief Teresa Corbin has said that it was another cost-of-living sting for those who battle higher bills for essentials.

“Every year more people are forced to abandon landlines because of the expense,” she said.

Telstra spokesman Steve Carey said the company had worked to keep increases “to a minimum”.

“The changes reflect our ongoing investment in operating and maintaining voice services across Australia and costs, such as labour and electricity, even as the number of customers using our fixed network diminishes as Australians move to the NBN network,” he said.

The monthly are for Telstra’s Voice Light home service will rise $1 to $17.95.

Basic, Casual, Voice Complete, Voice Part and Voice Advanced customers will pay $2 more monthly. New fees range from $27.95 to $53.95.
