Wolston Abuse Report To Be Released By QLD Govt
QLD Health Minister Cameron Dick has promised to make a public report on the abuse suffered by women who were committed to Wolston Park Mental Hospital.
According to state records, between 50-60 women and young children were sexually assaulted from the 1950s to the 1980s at the Brisbane Centre.
Survivors have fought to be recognised for their abuse and have been seeking compensation.
Mr Dick said he would release as much of the report as possible, however, he will ensure that the privacy of the women is kept.
"In as far as we can, we will make it public, in consultation with the women involved," Mr Dick said during the budget estimates hearings today.
"There may be personal matters raised in the report they don't wish to be made public. We will respect that."
The Wolston report is expected to be finalised shortly and eight women are understood to have taken part.
