Dawn Wells, the actress best known for playing Mary Ann Summers on the iconic Gilligan’s Island, has died aged 82.

Wells died in Los Angeles following complications with COVID-19.

Gilligans Island ran for three seasons between 1964 and 1967, with a cast that included Bob Denver as Gilligan, Alan Hale Jr. as “The Skipper”, Jim Backus as millionaire Thurston Howell III, Natalie Schafer as his wife, Russell Johnson as “The Professor,” and Tina Louise as movie star Ginger.

In an incredible interview, it was revealed that Wells was paid just $750 a week for starring on the show, but she said: “Sherwood Schwartz, our producer, reportedly made $US90 million on the reruns alone.”

The death of Wells means Tina Louise, 86 is the only surviving cast member of the show.
