A car has left the road, flipped and landed in the Aldgate Creek this morning, with the driver lucky to escape with minor injuries.

The car left Aldgate Creek Valley Road near Kiley Road, landing upside-down in the creek.

The 70-year-old woman, who was the only occupant of the car, was able to free herself and walk to a nearby house, where an ambulance was called at around 5am.

She was taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital to be treated for her minor injuries.

Police are investigating the cause of the crash although locals have warned that motorists need to take care with rain falling in the area.
