Commuters returning to work on the Gawler line have faced the difficult prospect of social distancing on reportedly overcrowded trains.

7News reports that at least one Adelaide commuter fears that the cramped conditions on the train could lead to more cases of COVID-19.

The State Government stripped back several public transport services in March after patronage dropped by around 70 per cent.

Step one of the easing of restrictions came into effect across South Australia yesterday, while a mechanical issue led to the closure of 50 train services on Friday.

South Australia now has just 1 active case of the coronavirus in the state, with only one new case recorded over recent weeks.
