Retailers in Adelaide will be permitted to trade for extended hours for the next month as the government moves to help ensure social distancing protocols continue to be observed.

The temporary change in shop trading rules will apply to all retailers, irrespective of their footprint.

Changes will come into effect on Wednesday May 20 and run for 30 days until June 18.

The changes include allowing shops to open at 9am on Sunday mornings, and gives retailers the option to open for 24 hours a day on weekdays.

Shops will also be allowed to stay open until 9pm on weekends, while trading will be permitted between 9am and 9pm on the upcoming Queen’s Birthday holiday.

The move is supported by health experts to help avoid a second spike of COVID-19 infections as restrictions begin to lift.
