The State Parliament is considering new laws that would ban any increases in commercial or residential rents for the next six months.
The emergency laws would be introduced as further protection to those renting through the pandemic, with the Federal Government already moving to ban evictions for those facing financial hardship.
The State Government has already moved to cap the rent on public housing for those receiving Centrelink in light of the widespread economic downturn.
Meanwhile, SAPOL would be given extra powers under emergency laws also being debated today.
The laws would allow police to use force to detain people if ordered by the states Chief Public Medical Officer or Police Commissioner.
State Attorney-General Vickie Chapman told the ABC that the emergency bill would protect landlords, tenants and jobs across the state.
