Dubai-based airline Emirates has announced that it will be pulling out of Adelaide following months of declining revenue due to the pandemic.

Emirates first started servicing Adelaide with direct flights between SA and Dubai eight years ago, but is now just one of the cities where flights in and out with the airline have been suspended.

The number of job losses from the departure of the Middle Eastern carrier is yet to be confirmed.

However, the cessation of services out of Adelaide might not stay in place forever, with an Emirates spokesperson giving some hope for the airline’s return.

“We hope to restart our operations in Adelaide when it is commercially and operationally feasible to do so in the future,” he said.
