The Great State Vouchers have been a great scheme to get South Australia up and running again, with locals taking advantage of what’s in their backyard rather than on the other side of the world.

On Friday, the next round of the Great State Vouchers opens for the chance to score yourself a free voucher. But as we saw with the last round being focused only on experiences, this round also has a catch.

The 50,000 vouchers will be limited to accommodation, with many places getting on board with the scheme by offering mid-week deals (excl. Friday). Hotels have seen a dip in mid-week stays with no overseas tourists, and fewer interstate and corporate travellers.

Eos by SkyCity hotel is keen to jump at the opportunity to offer special rates, located in Adelaide’s CBD. They will be offering a $529 room for $309 during the midweek and it includes breakfast! Alongside Eos, Oval Hotel and the InterContinental are offering $100 discounts and $50 discounts will be available in suburban and regional hotels.

Premier Steven Marshall is hopeful about the flow-on effect from hotels to other businesses.

“We’ve seen the data – during the travel period of the last round of accommodation vouchers, regional South Australia had its best occupancy rates for a three-month period ever recorded and CBD hotels hit the highest occupancy of any mainland Australian city,” Mr Marshall said.

“These vouchers stimulate travel, they get South Australians and interstate visitors booking overnight stays in our great state, and they sustain and create jobs in our visitor economy.

You can enter the ballot at from 9am Friday May 28 until 5pm Tuesday June 1.

Those lucky to be given a voucher will be notified on June 2 and can book for travel from June 2 to August 31, 2021.
