New tests have revealed that Adelaide has the nation’s highest consumption of meth, among the capital cities.

Wastewater testing commissioned by the Australian Crime Commission found that in spite of higher drug prices owing to the pandemic, consumption of methamphetamines had increased from December last year to April this year.

Meanwhile, the state also recorded the highest average consumption of cannabis among all Australian states, with higher consumption levels throughout the pandemic.

Nationally, methamphetamine is the most-used illicit drug in both regional and capital city sites, according to the study.

A spokesperson from SA Police told The Advertiser that the discovery of two large methamphetamine laboratories in May and August is likely to have impacted the city’s supply of the drug.

However, the supply of cannabis throughout the state looks to have increased restrictions on movement between Australia’s states have made it more difficult to move drugs outside of South Australia.
