South Australia’s restrictions on standing while consuming alcohol and dancing at private events will be eased from midnight tomorrow night following today’s transition committee meeting.

South Aussies will once again be permitted to stand while drinking following weeks of lobbying by the hospitality industry.

However, the change only applies to people standing in outdoor areas at licensed venues.

Those inside licensed venues will still have to be seated while consuming alcohol.

The changes come into effect in time for the beginning of the AFL finals.

Meanwhile, restrictions on dancing at private functions have also been eased, providing the event has a defined guest list.

South Australians were permitted to stand while drinking for a little over a month in June and August, however, the emergence of what was thought to be a ‘mystery’ local case of COVID-19 led to the no-standing restriction being introduced.

The state currently has no active cases of COVID-19.
