The State Government has axed the Adelaide Fashion Festival, meaning it will not go ahead in its current format this October.

The event was SA’s premier fashion festival that was elevated on to the international stage in 2015 with a $2m investment by the then state Labor government. It was managed by Events SA, the state’s major events arm.

The Advertiser reports that the event will be replaced by the retail spin-off ‘Vogue Festival’, which is run by the Adelaide City Council and Rundle Mall Management Authority.

The government-run SA Tourism Commission is understood to support an expansion of the Vogue Festival in the interim, according to The Advertiser.

Designers and industry stakeholders have been contacted by letter, inviting them to discuss how to be involved in the new version of the event.

The Adelaide Fashion Festival incorporated a range of fashion events throughout Adelaide, supporting up and coming models and designers, as well as showcasing the top end of the industry.
